UPDATE at 12:54: Due to hazardous conditions, the W.C. Holmes Bridge on Highway 59 is CLOSED. There will be no through traffic going north or south. We will alert the public when the bridge is back open.

Gulf Shores, Ala. – (
OBA) – Lane closures have been implemented on the W.C. Holmes Bridge along Highway 59 as officials address hazardous road conditions caused by icy weather. In collaboration with the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT), the City of Gulf Shores announced that traffic will be reduced to one northbound and one southbound lane to ensure safety while keeping the bridge open for essential travel.

The lane reductions are part of a broader effort to maintain access during challenging weather conditions while prioritizing public safety. "By working with ALDOT, we aim to keep the bridge accessible for as long as possible," officials stated.

The Gulf Shores Police Department will monitor road and bridge conditions closely, and closures may occur without notice if travel becomes unsafe. Residents are strongly urged to stay home unless travel is absolutely necessary.

City officials emphasize that updates will be provided as needed, and emergency services remain available for critical situations. For emergencies, residents should call 911.

For more information on the latest road and weather conditions, visit the Gulf Shores city website or follow updates from ALDOT and local authorities.
