Mills Road Project

Foley, Ala. — (OBA) —  Construction is underway in Foley on a new sidewalk and drainage project to connect the Mills Community to other parts of the city. The project includes 8,700 feet of concrete sidewalk, providing residents with pedestrian access to areas east of the neighborhood. City crews are also improving drainage along the same routes. The Mills Community became part of Foley in 2023 after residents voted to be annexed.

The project officially began in November 2026, following years of planning and coordination between city officials and community members. Foley worked with the Mills Community Action Group for several years to secure the rights-of-way required to build the sidewalks and drainage improvements. A key part of the planning process was ensuring that construction would protect the mature trees along the route. Since annexation, the city has worked to advance the project.

The concrete sidewalk will begin near the site of Mills Park, which is currently under construction on Mills Road. It will then extend along Mills Road, Little Rock Road, Airport Road, Dailey Lane, and Baldwin County 65. The project is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2027.

The Mills sidewalk is one of several walkway projects underway in Foley. Workers are finishing a sidewalk along Alabama 59 between Pride Drive and Azalea Avenue. That section completes a longer system that runs from Miflin Road at Baldwin County 20 north to Peachtree Avenue — a stretch of about four miles.

The city is also expanding its Cedar Street sidewalk. That walkway now runs from 9th Avenue to West Peachtree Avenue, about three miles. Future construction will extend the walkway farther north from West Peachtree to Village Square Boulevard.
