Gulf Shores, Ala. — (OBA) — Gulf Shores will present an analysis of the new traffic pattern in the Gulf Pines neighborhood because of the construction of the pedestrian bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway at East Second Street and Canal Road. The 90-degree intersection had to be closed for construction. Traffic now is routed down East Third Street to East 22nd Street and then west to East Second Avenue. The new route goes through a neighborhood and past Meyer Park.

The city council will meet on June 2 at 4 p.m. in council chambers at city hall.

Several improvements have been made along the reroute, including widening, adding turn lanes and a traffic light at the intersection of East Third Street and East 24th Avenue.

Plans call for the completion of the bridge in the winter of 2026. See related story.

Also during the work session, the council will discuss authorizing a parking study in the Waterway Village District “to analyze existing parking, current and anticipated parking needs, and recommendations for the Waterway Village Overlay District,” which includes parts of the Gulf Pines neighborhood.

During the work session, the council will also discuss:

• Reappointing Mary Wayne Gilmore to the Beautification Board through June 10, 2028, and appointing David Harper to the Public Education Building Authority to fill the rest of Robert Malone’s term through Nov. 9, 2027.
• Appointing election officers for the Aug. 26 municipal elections. Evelyn Sanders will be the inspector for the Cultural Center on County Road 6 and Jan Steiskal will be the inspector for the Erie Meyer Civic Center.
• Declaring certain city property as surplus and authorizing its sale at auction. Only two items are on the May list, a 2017 Kubota tractor and a 1997 Ford F450 bucket truck.
• Amending the ordinance on false fire alarm and elevator entrapment calls to add fines. From Feb. 1-April 30, there were 68 false fire alarms and 15 calls for elevator entrapment, according to a memo from Fire Chief Mark Sealy.
• A request to annex into the city by Mr. and Mrs. Chase Mitchell at 5122 Skiff Lane.
• An appeal from Kevin Walker on a $1,525 fine for unpermitted removal of trees on a lot at 1449 East Fairway Drive. The planning commission recommends denying the request.
• An assembly permit for the Food Truck of America on Nov. 7-9 at the town green at Gulf Place.
