Fort Morgan Rescue Ends In Tragedy After Father Saves Child
Officials urge beachgoers to follow warning flags after a fatal water rescue.
Fort Morgan, Ala. — (OBA) — A father died after a water rescue in Fort Morgan, where he tried to save his son in the Gulf. Emergency crews swiftly responded to reports of swimmers in distress and worked diligently to bring both individuals back to shore. Once they reached land, life-saving efforts commenced immediately.
The incident happened on Wednesday evening, June 17, 2026. The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Coastal Enforcement Unit responded alongside Fort Morgan Fire Rescue. Authorities said a man and his son had entered the water when the child began to struggle. The father attempted to assist while swimming.
Both were pulled from the water by first responders and others nearby. Crews began life-saving measures on the father at the scene. He was later transported to a local hospital for further treatment.
Officials said the man died at the hospital. He was 40 years old and was not a resident of Baldwin County. Authorities have not released his name at this time. The child survived and is receiving appropriate care.
Officials expressed sympathy for the family following the incident. “We extend our deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time. Our thoughts are with them as they navigate this loss,” the statement said. Responders also thanked those who assisted during the rescue effort.
Authorities are urging the public to pay close attention to beach conditions and warnings. They say swimmers should always follow the beach flag warning system. Double red flags mean the water is closed to the public, and conditions can become dangerous quickly.
Officials encourage residents and visitors to stay informed about current conditions and follow beach safety guidance.
