Foley Readies for Hometown Halloween Celebration

Foley, Ala. — (OBA) — Foley is getting ready for a big night downtown. Families and kids in costumes will fill the streets for their annual Hometown Halloween. The long-running event blends games, treats, and friendly competition. City officials and community groups say they expect a strong turnout.

This year’s Hometown Halloween takes place on Thursday, Oct. 23rd, in downtown Foley. The celebration runs from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Organizers say the event has been a tradition for more than 20 years.

City staff works with local businesses, churches, and community organizations to make it happen. Groups will set up activity booths and hand out treats. Booth decorations will be judged for creativity. The winning booth receives a special basket and a feature on the city’s websites.

Kids can enjoy an inflatable jump house and face painting. Families will find food concessions as well as a cake walk. Volunteers will host games with plenty of candy. The evening is designed to be safe and welcoming for all ages.

The costume contest remains the highlight of the night. It begins at 6 p.m. on the stage in the parking lot behind the Holmes Medical Museum. Judges will look for creativity and originality in each outfit. Categories range from age 2 and younger through teens and adults.

Several downtown streets will be closed to traffic during the event. Portions of South Alston Street, Orange Avenue, and East Laurel Avenue will be blocked. Foley police and firefighters will be on hand throughout the night. Extra lighting will help families trick-or-treat safely.

The fall fun begins before Thursday next week... Wednesday, Oct. 22nd, the Foley High School Homecoming Parade takes place. The parade starts at Foley Middle School at 5:30 p.m. It ends at Heritage Park with the Leo in the Park community pep rally.

Foley High School’s homecoming game is set for Friday, Oct. 24th, at 7 p.m. The matchup will be held at Ivan Jones Stadium. Fans are encouraged to arrive early. School spirit will carry into the weekend.

Saturday brings the annual Foley Witches Ride through downtown. The ride begins at 5 p.m. and wraps up with a celebration at Heritage Park. Details are posted on the
