Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) — Children across the Gulf Coast are invited to fish for a cause at the annual “Casting for a Cure Children’s Fishing Tournament”. The event is set for May 31 in Orange Beach. Hosted by the Orange Beach Sport Fishing Club, the tourney raises money for Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham. Organizers say it’s about fun, fishing, and making a difference.

Fishing begins at daylight, rain or shine, with lines out by 3 p.m. A weigh-in will follow from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at OSO at Bear Point Harbor, located at 5749 Bay La Launch Avenue in Orange Beach. Awards will be handed out at 6 p.m.

The entry fee is $30 per child. Participants will be split into age groups: 3–6, 7–11, and 12–15. Each group will award 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes for the heaviest and longest fish.

Extra prizes will go to the child who catches the largest and smallest pinfish. To register, visit the
Orange Beach Sports Fishing Club Website.

Tim Howard of the Orange Beach Sport Fishing Club said the tournament is a way to get children outdoors while supporting a meaningful cause. “All sponsorship money will go directly to the hospital,” he said.

Bethany White added that around 1,800 new cancer cases come to Children’s of Alabama every year. “Many of those kids are from our area,” she said. “This tournament helps support them.”
