Downtown Foley Gets New Community Program Focused on Art and Culture
The new program builds on growing momentum in the downtown district with murals, music, and community spaces.
Foley, Ala. — (OBA) — Foley Main Street has launched a new community giving initiative, the "Friends of Downtown Foley" program. The effort allows residents and supporters to directly invest in the artistic and cultural growth of the city's historic downtown district. The program was created by the Foley Main Street Community Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. It marks a new chapter in the ongoing effort to make downtown Foley a regional destination.
The program launched in 2026 as part of a broader push to build on recent momentum in the downtown area. Over the past several years, the district has seen the addition of vibrant murals, public art installations, and live music events. The Foley Main Street Community Foundation has already invested more than $154,000 in grant capital into the local economy. That funding has gone toward improvements to crosswalks, murals, and local businesses.
Wes Abrams, President of the Foley Main Street Community Foundation, spoke to the spirit of the new effort. "Foley Main Street is on a mission to make our downtown a vibrant and welcoming destination in the region," Abrams said. "But to do that, we need more than plans—we need a family. This program isn't just about a donation; it's about becoming part of the heartbeat of our town."
Funds raised through the Friends of Downtown Foley program will support several high-impact projects. These include artistic crosswalks and murals designed to add color and improve safety on downtown streets. Community gathering spaces are also planned, along with expanded public art throughout the historic district. Live music performances are another priority, with funding aimed at bringing local talent to downtown streets.
Donors who join as Friends of Downtown Foley will receive more than a tax deduction. Seventy-five percent of all donations go directly to local art and music initiatives. Supporters also gain the ability to vote on future projects the foundation undertakes. The program is designed to give community members a real voice in shaping the direction of downtown development.
