The ceremony also marks the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army. Local leaders will join with the community to recognize veterans from all military branches. Organizers are also emphasizing the importance of honoring the families of those who served.

Veterans and their family members are encouraged to submit short stories for the service. Submissions should be one or two paragraphs and must be sent by Monday, June 9, to American Legion Post 44 chaplain at sfranduto@gmail.com

Many of these stories will be read aloud during the service, and all will be printed for the occasion. This is a way to give voice to personal experiences of service and sacrifice.
