Orange Beach’s Lee Steele Earns AHSAA Mobile Area Athlete Of The Week

Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) — Orange Beach High School’s Lee Steele has been named the AHSAA Mobile Area Athlete of the Week, presented by Scout Program Management. The standout sophomore has quickly become one of Alabama’s most promising young athletes, earning recognition for his leadership and record-setting performances this season. His impact on the court has helped the Makos reach new program heights.


The award was announced on Tuesday as Orange Beach prepared for its Sweet Sixteen matchup against Jackson. The Makos enter the game with a school-record 26 wins, a mark that highlights the growth of the basketball program and Steele’s central role in its success.

Steele leads Orange Beach in points, assists, and rebounds per game. Earlier this season, he surpassed 1,000 career points — a milestone that reflects his consistency and talent since joining the varsity team as an eighth grader. His all-around performance has made him one of the top sophomore athletes in Alabama.

In addition to his dominance on the basketball court, Steele also holds several SEC offers in both basketball and football. His two-sport potential has drawn attention across the state and from major college programs throughout the Southeast.


Orange Beach Middle & High School has rallied behind Steele and the Makos’ remarkable season. As the team continues its postseason run, Steele’s leadership and drive remain at the heart of Orange Beach’s success — building excitement for what’s still to come.


Steele’s next stop is the Sweet Sixteen game tonight in Montgomery against Jackson. The game tips off at 4:30 at the Garrett Coliseum.
