Twenty-Four New Firefighters Graduate In Orange Beach Ceremony
Recruits complete 520 hours of training to become sworn firefighters.

Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) — The ranks of first responders in south Alabama grew stronger this past week. A group of new firefighters completed their rigorous training to serve local communities. They celebrated their transition from recruits to sworn professionals during a formal ceremony held in Orange Beach. This event marks the beginning of their careers in public safety.
The graduation ceremony took place Friday morning, December 12. It was hosted at the Orange Beach Performing Arts Center with families and friends in attendance. A total of 24 individuals walked across the stage to accept their new titles. This class is known as Recruit Class 25-01.
These graduates will now disperse to various departments across the region to begin their service. The Orange Beach Fire Rescue squad gained the largest number with 13 new members. Gulf Shores Fire Rescue welcomed four new firefighters to their team. Spanish Fort Fire Rescue added three members to their roster.
Several other departments in the area also received new personnel from this specific training academy. The Satsuma Fire/Rescue, Atmore Fire Department, Saraland Fire Department, and Semmes Fire Department each gained one firefighter. This widespread placement highlights the regional importance of the training center located here in Orange Beach.
Earning the badge required immense dedication and physical endurance from every single recruit. The program lasted for three months and included 520 hours of instruction. The curriculum covered a wide range of essential skills needed for modern firefighting. Every graduate met the strict requirements of the Alabama Fire College.
Chief of Training Austin Lesinger led the morning proceedings to honor the new class. The emotional highlight involved family members pinning badges onto the uniforms of their loved ones. A formal oath of office was administered to finalize their status. Former Mobile Fire Rescue Chief Jeremy Lami served as speaker.
The list of new firefighters joining Orange Beach includes Bayne Barrontine and James Dumas. Hayden Faulkner, Tyler Harless, and Rylie Harrison also joined the local department. Austin Heiden, Hunter Howard, Chase Hoyle, and Bryson Kinkead successfully completed the program as well. They are ready to protect the island immediately.
Completing the large group for Orange Beach are Letson May and Elijah Michon. Chase Sterling and Tyler Wigley round out the list of 13 new local hires. Their addition represents a significant boost in manpower for Orange Beach. This ensures better coverage during the busy tourist seasons ahead.
Gulf Shores Fire & Rescue is bringing on Nikolas Bodin, James Derstine, Kimberly Lee, and Andrew McConnell. For Spanish Fort, the new additions are Shayne Larson, Benjamin Lawrence, and David Wyatt. These neighboring agencies rely on the academy to maintain high standards. Collaboration between these cities remains strong.
The remaining graduates represent departments located further inland from the coast. Thomas Harper joins Satsuma, while Isaiah Hetrick heads to Atmore. Jacob Holifield will serve in Saraland, and Preston Moore goes to Semmes. Their training in Orange Beach prepares them for diverse emergencies they will likely face.
Two specific recruits received special recognition for their outstanding performance during the academy. Elijah Michon earned the Award for Academic Excellence for his classroom achievements. The class voted for Shayne Larson to receive the Leadership Award. These honors reflect the high level of commitment shown by these individuals.
A dedicated team of professionals guided the class through the grueling training schedule. Chief Lesinger worked alongside Training Officers Micheal Lucas and Zac White. The instructional staff also included Lt. Zach Cook and several engineers. Engineers Chad Hartley, Phillip Stewart, Zach Lavender, and Raymond Alexander all assisted.
Medical training was provided by fire medics Damon Haun, Jordan Flynt, and Saylor Hammett. The academy also utilized guest instructors to broaden the learning experience. Orange Beach Deputy Fire Marshal Zach Black contributed his expertise to the group. Training Lt. Tyler Sundie from the Foley Fire Department assisted as well.
The City of Orange Beach expressed pride in hosting such a successful academy. Officials wished every new firefighter luck as they entered the service. They will now serve citizens across Satsuma, Saraland, Semmes, Spanish Fort, Gulf Shores, and Orange Beach.
