Community traditions highlight support for education in Orange Beach

Makos on Main

Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) — As summer draws to a close, Orange Beach is preparing to welcome the new school year with a community-wide celebration. The annual Makos on Main event, hosted by Orange Beach City Schools, will mark the beginning of the 2025–2026 academic year with activities designed to foster school spirit and community pride. Families, students, and educators are invited to participate by wearing official Mako apparel and joining in the festivities. The event serves as both a kickoff to the school year and a visible show of support for local education.

Those looking to gear up for Makos on Main can find Mako-branded shirts, hats, and other merchandise at the
Orange Beach Store, located at the intersection of Perdido Beach Boulevard and Highway 161. All proceeds from sales directly benefit Orange Beach City Schools, with funds supporting students, teachers, and school programs. More than just a celebration, Makos on Main reflects the strong ties between the schools and the broader community, highlighting a shared commitment to education and civic unity.

Makos on Main will take place on Monday, August 4, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The celebration will be held at The Wharf, a favorite community venue recognized for hosting large events throughout the year. The date was chosen to give families an opportunity to reconnect and prepare for the school year ahead. Organizers hope that the event’s timing, just before classes begin, helps set a positive and supportive atmosphere for students as they transition from summer break to the classroom.

More than just a party, Makos on Main is designed to strengthen community ties and show consistent support for academic achievement. Families can socialize with teachers and school officials, while students meet classmates and future friends before the year begins. The focus is on making everyone feel welcome and connected, whether they have lived in Orange Beach for years or are new to the area.

Holding an event like Makos on Main gives the district an opportunity to show the importance they place on community engagement. Events such as this often inspire greater involvement throughout the year, boosting participation in school activities and events. This sense of belonging can have long-lasting effects on students, improving motivation and school performance as the year moves forward.
