Foley Airport Opens Its Doors for the Second Annual Open House

Foley, Ala. — (OBA) — Foley's municipal airport is opening its doors to the public again. The city of Foley and Lightning Aviation are hosting a second-annual open house at Holk Field. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the terminal and other parts of the facility. The event is expected to be a fun and informative day for the entire community.

The open house is scheduled for Saturday, March 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The airport is at 510 Airport Drive, near Underwood Road and Baldwin County 24. It is about five miles from the Tanger Outlet Center and roughly 15 miles from the Gulf beaches.

Lightning Aviation manages the daily operations at the airport. The company and the city are collaborating to organize the event. Representatives from aviation-related agencies and organizations have also been invited to participate in the open house.

The Foley Masonic Lodge will be there to sell food during the event. Meal deals will be available at $5 each, giving visitors a chance to grab a bite while exploring the grounds.

This is the second time the airport has held an open house. The first event occurred in March 2025 and attracted about 100 people to the site. Attendees toured the airport and asked questions about its activities and operations.

Since that first open house, the airport has been renamed. It is now officially called Holk Field at Foley Municipal Airport. The name honors former Mayor Arthur Holk, who passed away in 2021.

The airport has a 3,700-foot runway oriented north and south. Services at the facility include flight instruction, aircraft maintenance, and aircraft rentals. Additional aviation services are also available for pilots and enthusiasts.

Foley has plans to expand and improve Holk Field in the coming years. The city is working on constructing new hangars and connecting taxiways. Officials also intend to upgrade the airport's drainage system.

The open house is a great chance for residents to learn more about the airport and its offerings. Whether someone is an experienced pilot or just curious about local aviation, the event welcomes everyone. No prior flying or airport knowledge is required to enjoy the day.
