Prescription Drug Take Back Day Scheduled For Orange Beach Residents

Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) — The Orange Beach Police Department is partnering with Walmart in Orange Beach for a community prescription drug take-back event. The collection is meant to give the public a place to dispose of unused prescription drugs. Organizers are asking residents to prepare medications before arriving.

Prescription Drug Take Back Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The drop-off location will be in front of Walmart Neighborhood Market, 25241 Perdido Beach Blvd., in Orange Beach.

The program is designed to help people remove expired and unused prescription drugs from their homes. Organizers said the event offers a simple way for residents to get rid of medications they no longer need. That can help reduce the amount of unused drugs kept in medicine cabinets.

Residents are requested to remove labels from pill bottles before bringing medications to the site. Organizers also ask that the medications be placed in a secure bag. These measures are intended to protect personal information and streamline the drop-off process.

Participants are encouraged to collect any old or unused prescription medications before arriving at the event. Please do not include needles or syringes. After removing the labels, place the medications in a secure bag and bring them to the designated collection location.

The take-back day is organized through a partnership between the Orange Beach Police Department and Walmart in Orange Beach. This event provides residents with a convenient local drop-off point for disposing of unused medications, rather than leaving them at home.

Event information for the take-back day indicates that misuse of controlled prescription drugs remains a concern. It cites the 2023 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, which found that 8.6 million Americans misuse controlled prescription drugs, many of whom obtain them from family and friends.

The local collection event will provide Orange Beach residents with a designated time and place to dispose of unused medications. Because the drop-off window is limited to four hours, organizers are encouraging the public to prepare items in advance. Residents can then bring them to the site for disposal.
