Foley Gears Up for Major Developments

Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – A new hotel is likely coming to the OWA Parks and Resort complex per a request before the Foley planning commission for site plan approval for OWA Tropic Falls Hotel.

 

The Foley Planning Commission will meet on Jan. 10 in a work session at 5:30 p.m. at city hall in council chambers and follow that up with a Jan. 17 regular meeting at the same venue and time. There are three items on the agenda with requests for site plan approvals for three new businesses.

 

The new hotel, if approved, will be located east of the Foley Beach Express and north of South OWA Boulevard. Staff will recommend approval of the site plan.

 

The commission will also consider a site plan for a new Tractor Supply Store to be located near the Old Time Pottery on 20.6 acres south of Keller Road and east of State Route 59. There are two agenda items on this request the first being to resubdivide the Old Time Pottery subdivision to carve out the acreage and a second seeking site plan approval at the same location for a Tractor Supply Store. Staff will recommend approval of both items.

 

The third is a site plan approval request for 10 acres at the southwest corner of the Foley Beach Express and County Road 20 for the Village at Foley with part of the request for a new grocery store. Staff will recommend approval.

 

During the meetings, the commission will also discuss:

  • Granting a three-month extension for Bay Street Village phases one and two located at the northwest corner of Michigan Avenue and South Bay Street. There are 77 lots in the development on 16.96 acres and staff will recommend approval.
  • A one-year extension for The Cove at Cotton Bayou phase one located east of County Road 65 and north of Arbor Walk subdivision. There are 53 lots planned on 20.5 acres and staff will recommend approval.
  • Approving a one-year extension for Outpost Orchard located south of East Michigan Avenue and west of South Pecan Street. There are 247 lots planned on 30.7 acres in the development and staff will recommend approval.
  • A request from Cox Pools for site plan approval for an office and warehouse space located on a five-acre lot south of U.S. 98 between the Foley Beach Express and Barin Field Road. Staff will recommend approval.
  • Granting a site plan approval for Stowaway Storage phase two located at 22323 U.S. 98 on 16 acres. Staff will recommend approval.
  • A resubdivision of 28.4 acres located north of Breckner Road and east of Mills Road located in the city’s planning jurisdiction in the Mills Community. It is currently divided into four lots and staff will recommend approval of the request.
  • Approving a resubdivision of lot C of the Curtis Creek addition on 2.9 acres and containing three lots. It is located in the city planning jurisdiction north of Cool Springs Drive and east of River Road North. Staff will recommend approval.
  • A request for approval of a minor subdivision in the Scurlock Subdivision located west of Nall Road and north of County Road 16 on a parcel that is five acres and consists of four lots. Staff will recommend approval.

Firefighters Douse Flaming Golf Cart in Orange Beach

Orange Beach firefighters’ quick response to a golf cart engulfed in flames at Ave Pub prevented the fire from spreading to a second cart parked in the next parking space. Upon arrival, the fire crew found the cart fully engulfed in flames.
Beachside S'mores Bash Returns to Gulf Shores May 23rd

The Orange Beach Makos Academics, Arts, and Athletics Club (MAAAC) awarded $10,000 in scholarships to five deserving high school seniors.
