Foley, Ala. — (OBA) —  The Foley Community Library is launching a new public education series this fall, with the first event addressing a topic that affects yards, forests, and wetlands across the Gulf Coast. The library's new Bites and Insights series will feature experts discussing topics of local importance. The inaugural event will focus on invasive plant species that have taken root throughout Foley and South Alabama. Small refreshments will be served, and registration is free and open to all members of the public.

The first Bites and Insights program is scheduled for Tuesday, September 15, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon. The event will take place in the library's Canopy Hall auditorium at 230 E. Orange Ave. in Foley. Participants can register in advance at foleylibrary.org or by scanning the QR code on event flyers posted throughout the community.

Experts from Foley's Graham Creek Nature Preserve will lead the discussion. They will discuss invasive plant species commonly found in Foley and throughout the region. The presentation will explain how these plants compete with and displace native vegetation.

Attendees will also learn how invasive species affect wildlife, forests, wetlands, and residential landscapes. The impact of these plants on local ecosystems has become an increasing concern for land managers and homeowners throughout Baldwin County. Understanding the problem is the first step toward effective management.

The session will also provide participants with hands-on knowledge they can apply in their own communities. Presenters plan to teach attendees how to identify the most common invasive plants in the area. Practical management techniques for protecting natural areas will also be covered during the program.

The Foley Community Library's Bites and Insights series brings together community members and local experts in an informal setting.
