South Baldwin County Cities Adjust Schedules for Independence Day Weekend

Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) —  City governments across South Baldwin County have announced holiday schedules for the Independence Day weekend. Residents in Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, and Foley will experience temporary changes to office hours and select city services. Emergency operations will continue as applicable. Officials are also reminding the public of safety regulations for the holiday.

On Friday, July 3, non-essential city offices in Orange Beach and Foley will be closed in observance of Independence Day. In Gulf Shores, city administrative offices will also close that day. Most facilities and offices are scheduled to resume normal operations on Monday, July 6, while some sanitation services will operate on modified schedules extending into the following week.

Orange Beach officials said trash and recycling services will not be affected by the holiday. All collection routes will operate as usual despite the office closure. The city also extended holiday wishes to residents, encouraging everyone to enjoy a happy and safe celebration of America's 250th birthday and the Fourth of July.

Gulf Shores announced that police, fire, and other emergency services will remain open throughout the holiday to ensure public safety and health. Administrative offices will close on Friday, but several city facilities will either close temporarily or operate with modified hours during the holiday weekend.

Yard debris and bulky item pickups normally scheduled for Friday, July 3, in Gulf Shores will instead be collected on Thursday, July 2. Republic Services garbage and recycling collection will continue on its regular schedule without interruption.

The Gulf Shores City Store will close Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4, and reopen Monday, July 6. The Thomas B. Norton Public Library and the Gulf Shores Museum also will remain closed on Friday and Saturday for the holiday.

City officials also reminded residents that the sale or use of fireworks within the corporate limits or police jurisdiction of Gulf Shores is strictly prohibited. They also noted that cooking with propane or charcoal on decks, under decks, or within 10 feet of multifamily dwellings or combustible structures is prohibited.

Officials also reminded the public that open fires on the beach or in public areas are prohibited. Gulf Shores encouraged residents to celebrate responsibly and wished everyone a safe and happy Fourth of July.
