Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) — Orange Beach Fitness Center employee David Dale has been recognized for his strong work ethic and community spirit. He received the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber’s April 2026 Catch the Island Spirit Award. Dale is known among gym members for his early hours, friendly demeanor, and community involvement. This recognition also continues a winning streak for Orange Beach Parks and Recreation staff.
The April 2026 award follows Brenda Odom’s March win as an indoor pickleball attendant at the same recreation campus, with the recognition effectively moving just across the parking lot. It marks two consecutive months in which Parks and Recreation staff have earned the honor.
Dale’s nomination letter highlighted his daily routine and positive attitude. “He starts his work every morning at 4 AM. He always has a smile (and a joke) when you walk into the gym,” the letter stated. It also noted his service to his church and his active role in the city.
The nomination described how Dale has become a local favorite. “He has become a favorite at the gym, where people make stickers and shirts of him and dress up as him for Halloween,” the letter continued. It added that his actions reflect the award's purpose both on and off the job.
The Catch the Island Spirit Award honors individuals who go above and beyond in their workplaces and communities. Dale’s recognition highlights not only his work at the fitness center but also his broader impact throughout Orange Beach. Photos of the award presentation were taken by Ryan Moberly of the
