Orange Beach City Council to Vote on $46.1M Athletic Complex Contract

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – The city council will consider awarding a $46.1 million contract to Bear General Contractors to build an on-campus athletic complex at its regular session on Oct. 17 in council chambers at city hall at 5 p.m.

 

Immediately following that meeting, the council will conduct a work session to discuss items for the next regular meeting.

 

The Orange Beach Board of Education would pay for the project and later be reimbursed if the council passes the resolution. See related story.

 

During the regular session, the council will also discuss:

 

Approving expense vouchers in the amount of $1.4 million.

 

Awarding the bid for the interior buildout of the Wildlife Center and Trail Maintenance Shop for $720,000 to Rolin Construction. RESTORE Act funding will pay for $624,450 of the cost.

 

A resolution naming Michael Dasinger as the municipal court judge for Orange Beach.

 

Renewing a tax franchise for A-1 Ms. Mary Taxi Service.

 

A resolution signing a contract with Kimley-Horn and Associates for engineering services.

 

A resolution authorizing a contract with Anne Gajda for golf instruction.

 

Authorizing two agreements with the Safe Harbor Animal Coalition for removal of feral cats from active beach mouse habitats.

 

A resolution adopting rental agreements and establishing a fee schedule for use of the Coastal Art Center of Orange Beach.

 

Appropriating $10,000 to the Pensacola and Perdido Bays Estuary Program.

 

A resolution approving a contract with Jim House and Associates to rebuild existing pumps for the Utilities Department for $31,581.

 

Approving the purchase of new chairs for the Event Center for $96,096.

 

Awarding a bid for trap and skeet machines for the city shooting range to Howell Shooting Supplies for $141,756.

 

A resolution to award the bid for the installation of lights at the softball field at the Orange Beach Sportsplex to Harris Contracting Services for $41,900.

 

Awarding the bid for installation of turf at the football/soccer stadium to Rolin Construction for $1.3 million.

 

Awarding the bid for an addition to the Community Center and roof replacements to the Green-Simmons Co. for $472,000.

 

During the work session, the council will discuss:

 

Rescheduling the meeting for Nov. 21 to Nov. 14.

 

Awarding a bid for Rosemary Dunes Cabins after bids were opened on Oct. 12. Four bidders were Black Diamond Construction for $395,100, MD Thomas Construction for $685,000, Phil Harris Construction for $595,450 and Rolin Construction for $630,000.

 

Awarding a bid for the softball and baseball fieldhouse. Bids will be opened on Nov. 2.

 

A resolution awarding a bid for an EBS rotary screw blower package for the Utilities Department.

 

Approving a contract with Lexipol to update the Orange Beach Fire Department’s policy manual for $41,490.

 

Authorizing the purchase of a fortified lifeguard tower from Bausch Enterprises for $88,810 to be used on the east side of Perdido Pass.

 

A contract with Garner C. Tampary Memorial Foundation for the “Merry Memories Tinsel Trail” event during the holiday season at Waterfront Park and the Coastal Arts Center of Orange Beach.

 

Set a public hearing date for an ordinance change to The Wharf planning unit development to allow for a Culver’s Restaurant. Site work is already underway at the Northwest corner of Canal Road and Wharf Parkway East. The suggested date was Nov. 7.
