Gulf Shores, Ala. — (OBA) —  Gulf Shores City Schools is launching a new adult culinary class series called The Art of Culinary. The series is designed to celebrate food, learning, and community. Organizers said the classes will be hands-on and led by Chef Jon Kastner and other local experts. Each class will focus on a different ingredient, theme, or culinary tradition.

The first class, The Art of the Oyster, is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28, from 6:00–8:00 PM. It will be held in the outdoor kitchen at Gulf Shores Middle School. Participants will join Chef Jon Kastner, formerly of Southern Chili Lab, and Eric Bradley of Navy Cove Oysters. The session will center on oyster knowledge, shucking, preparation, and tasting.

The class is planned as a guided culinary experience focused on oysters, which organizers described as a Gulf Coast delicacy. Attendees are expected to learn basic information about oysters and how to handle them safely. The session also includes preparation, practice, and tasting.

Organizers said guests will learn to prepare raw oysters with champagne mignonette. The class will also cover chargrilled oysters with beurre maître d’hôtel and GSHS herbs. A third preparation listed is wok-fried oysters with miso remoulade.

The event costs $25 per person. Space is limited to 12 participants. Tickets must be purchased in advance on GoFan, as announced. The class is meant to help adults learn, prepare, taste, and connect.

Gulf Shores City Schools said additional class dates and themes are planned but have not been announced yet. The announcement noted that more upcoming dates with themes are coming soon.
