Orange Beach Council to Review Development and Public Safety Plans

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – At its regular session on Aug. 6, the Orange Beach City Council will consider an ordinance change to add items to the planned unit development for Springhill Suites now under construction on beach road between Doc’s Seafood and Steaks and Sharky’s Seafood Restaurant. It will be a second reading of the change and the council will likely vote on it after a public hearing.

 

The change deals with buffering on the north side of the lot and changing roof features on the hotel. A total of 120 rooms are proposed, and the building will be seven stories.

 

During the regular session, the council will also:

  • Ok checks paid to vendors from July 18 through Aug. 7 for 182 checks totaling more than $1.5 million.
  • Have a second reading of an ordinance change to allow for the Abbey Road, a single-family residential development with 33 lots at the corner of Canal Road and Capt. Trent Lane by developer Greg Kennedy.
  • Discuss extending an agreement with the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the city to supplement nuisance wildlife control services. The current agreement expires on Aug. 14.
  • Hear a request to authorize the purchase of a Kubota mini excavator for $53,664 from Parish Tractor Co. in Robertsdale.
  • Consider buying four new vehicles from Stivers Ford for $203,954 for four 2024 Ford F-150 supercrew pickups for the police department.
  • Discuss authorizing a contract with McCollough Architecture to design a building planned for the city’s shooting range for $23,000.
  • Consider a resolution to pass an amended automatic aid agreement with Gulf Shores for fire response in Gulf State Park.
  • Discuss Accepting a statement of work from Civic Plus for online process automation and digital services.
  • Consider authorizing a contract with AECOM to do a traffic signal evaluation on State Route 180 at The Wharf for $15,750.
  • Discuss accepting a $10,000 grant from the Gulf Coast Resources Conservation and Development Council for the Cotton Bayou and Terry Cove navigation aids project.
  • Consider authorizing an agreement with Burk-Kleinpeter to reassign task orders for Wolf Bay Bridge analysis and design to Thompson Engineering.
  • Discuss a contract with GeoCon Engineering and Materials Testing and Engineering Services for improvements to the Carleton Lane right of way from Canal Road to Sampson Avenue for $2,750. Carleton is directly west of the Orange Beach Methodist Church.
  • Discuss Amending an ordinance concerning fire department emergency transport service to place a mileage limit on transporting patients.

 

During the work session, the council will discuss:

  • Authorizing a contract with Brandy Reeves for tennis instruction services for city programs.
  • Adopting a fiscal year 2025 transportation plan to the state as required to receive funding from the state’s new Rebuild Alabama gas tax passed in 2019.
  • Authorizing the purchase of a video surveillance system for the Orange Beach Sportsplex from Vision Security Technologies for $97,941.
  • Authorizing an agreement with the Garner C. Tampary Memorial Foundation for the second annual Merry Memories Tinsel Trail at Waterfront Park near the kids' playground.
  • Contracting with Watermark Design Group to design bathrooms at the Sportsplex for $24,000.
  • Reappointing Shawn Goe and Rusty Hart to the Fire Code Board of Appeals.
  • Authorizing AECOM to do a speed limit study on State Route 182 or beach road for $9,000.
  • Reappointing Mayor Tony Kennon to the Gulf Shores and Orange Beach Tourism Board of Directors.
  • Contracting with ThreatAdvice for computer network endpoint protection and buying 15 units for a total of $360.
  • Amending the fee schedule for emergency medical treatment and transport services.
  • Amending the fee schedule for the Coastal Arts Center of Orange Beach.
  • Setting a public hearing date for Keel Storage phase four addition at 27103 Canal Road.
