Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – Two developments are coming before the Orange Beach Planning Commission on Feb. 13 that could add hundreds of new rentals to the city’s inventory. The commission will have a work session at 3 p.m. followed by a regular session at 4 p.m. in council chambers.

Abaco of Orange Beach I will ask for site plan review approval for a development on Terry Cove at the southern end of Griffith Marina Road and Captain Trent Lane. Plans currently call for nine buildings and 259 dwelling units as well as a marina on Terry Cove. It will be built in four phases and is in the marine resort zoning district.

A second, Lost Bay Townhomes, is asking to combine two lots into one for this project. The property is located south of Canal Road and will run behind the Posh Furniture complex, Dollar General and the Brett Robinson laundry. It will be west of the Island Church’s campus. Engineering Design Group is making the request on behalf of Alva Gordon Barnhill. One of the lots has frontage on Canal Road just east of the Posh building.

Another agenda item contains a request from Community Development to amend the future land-use plan to change the two Barnhill lots from commercial high density to residential mixed.

There are more than 17,000 vacation rental properties on the Alabama Gulf Coast between condos, beach houses and hotels including nearly 9,000 in Orange Beach.

During the meeting, the commission will also consider:

  • A request by KO Investments and Greg Kennedy to subdivide lot four of Bickers Acres into two lots. It is located at the north end of the Carleton Lane undeveloped right of way and behind three houses on Sampson Avenue built by KO Investments.

  • A request from Lucido Engineering for Rodney Jones to rezone 1.8 acres into a planned unit development for residential development containing five duplexes. The lot is on the Gulf and directly east of where Turquoise Place is planning to build a four-story parking garage with amenities on the top level. The lot is currently zoned single-family residential. Jones and wife Laurie are the owners of Hudson Marina on Terry Cove.

  • A request for a conditional use permit to build a duplex on a beachfront lot at 29110 Perdido Beach Blvd. The lot is currently zoned single-family residential.

  • A site plan review for a 6,400-square-foot central office building for the Orange Beach Board of Education. The property is located at 4544 and 4550 Orange Beach Boulevard on city-owned land south of the Circle K convenience store.
