Gulf Shores, Ala. — (OBA) — Residents of Gulf Shores can soon experience what it’s like to be a first responder through two special citizen academy programs this fall. Both the Gulf Shores Fire Rescue and the Gulf Shores Police Department are opening their doors to the public, offering unique opportunities for community members to learn about the vital work of local first responders. The Citizen Academies are designed to give participants firsthand knowledge and skills while building connections between the community and its protectors. With limited spots available, the city encourages residents to secure their places soon for these popular programs.

The Gulf Shores Fire Rescue Citizen’s Academy runs from September 2 through October 21. Classes meet every Tuesday night at 6 p.m. Participants will get to see what it takes to be a firefighter, learn about fire safety, and take part in hands-on activities. The police department is also inviting locals to join the Gulf Shores Police Department Citizen’s Academy. That course will run from September 30 through November 18 and meet every Tuesday at 6 p.m. Both programs are open to city residents and anyone interested in learning more about first responder duties.

The academies aim to educate the public about the daily work and special challenges faced by police officers and firefighters. Attendees will interact with experienced professionals, ask questions, and learn new safety tips. These programs help build trust and understanding between first responders and the people they serve.

Seats for both academies are limited and tend to fill up quickly. City officials urge anyone interested to sign up soon before registration closes. The Fire Rescue Citizen’s Academy and the Police Department Citizen’s Academy both promise a memorable and informative experience for all who participate. For more information about registration and eligibility, residents can contact the city or visit the official Gulf Shores website.
