Foley, Ala. — (OBA) — Foley is transforming into a winter wonderland as the Alabama city prepares for another festive holiday season. Known for its elaborate Christmas displays, the community has begun installing decorations throughout its historic downtown area and Heritage Park. City crews and volunteers are working together to create the magical atmosphere that has made Foley a regional destination for holiday celebrations. The extensive preparation reflects the growing reputation of Foley as a must-visit location during the Christmas season.

Mayor Ralph Hellmich explained that the decoration process now begins in early November, a significant change from past years. As November started, teams began setting up the main Christmas tree and placing ornaments along major roadways. The timeline has shifted earlier to support local businesses during the extended holiday shopping period.

The mayor noted that the expanding collection of decorations requires more time and coordination than in previous years. Outside partners now assist with the installation process, making it a community-wide effort. Decades ago, the city waited until after Thanksgiving to begin decorating, but local merchants requested an earlier start to boost the Christmas shopping season.

Foley has earned recognition for its commitment to holiday displays. The historic downtown area features particularly impressive decorations that draw visitors from across the region. Mayor Hellmich emphasized that the city has made substantial investments in creating a memorable Christmas experience for residents and tourists alike.

The city gained national attention in 2023 when AZ Animals featured it in an article titled "9 Small Towns that Belong in a Hallmark Christmas Movie." The website praised Foley's holiday spirit, highlighting both the downtown decorations and the Christmas Trail display at Graham Creek Nature Preserve. This recognition has helped establish Foley as a destination for families seeking authentic small-town Christmas charm.

The official kickoff of the Christmas season will occur the first weekend in December, following Thanksgiving. The city will host its annual Christmas Parade and Christmas in the Park celebration during this time. These traditional events bring together residents and visitors for festive activities throughout the downtown area.

A newer addition to the holiday calendar is the Second Annual Christmas Night Market, scheduled for December 11 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will take place at the Foley Farmer's and Fishermens Market. Attendees can browse artisan crafts and baked goods from local vendors while enjoying food from various food trucks.

The Christmas Night Market will feature special entertainment and activities for families. Carolers from Foley High School will perform holiday music throughout the evening. Santa Claus will also make an appearance, giving children the opportunity to share their Christmas wishes with him.

Mayor Hellmich encouraged families to participate in the first weekend of December festivities. He described the events as perfect opportunities for children to experience the magic of the season. The weekend will include concerts and various entertainment options suitable for all ages, creating memories that families will treasure for years to come.
