Foley, Ala. — (OBA) — The Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival has selected Gulf Shores artist Nicole Goodbar as the winner of its 22nd Annual Festival Poster Contest. Her colorful, expressive artwork will serve as the official design for this year’s event. It will appear on posters, T-shirts, and select festival merchandise. The contest, a beloved tradition, continues to spotlight the creativity found across the Gulf Coast region.

The 22nd Annual Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival will take place April 30 through May 2, 2026, at OWA Parks & Resort in Foley. The organizers said the three-day celebration remains one of South Alabama’s signature community gatherings.

Goodbar, a painter and muralist with more than 25 years of experience, is known for her vivid acrylic works. “My mother always believed in my talent, and my faith continues to guide my creative purpose,” she shared. Her work often explores coastal themes, blending craftsmanship and artistry to reflect life along the Gulf Coast. She credits her husband, Eric, her daughter, Kyleah, and her son, Kole, as continuing sources of inspiration.

The winning poster design, filled with touches of whimsy and patriotism, honors Foley and America’s upcoming 250th anniversary. Goodbar said she wanted the art to reflect “the heart and soul of Foley” while encouraging others to appreciate the place they call home. Organizers noted that her work stood out for its detailed landscapes and strong sense of community spirit.

This year’s festival will feature family activities, including the Disc-Connected K9 Dog Show, a kids' zone, and a mix of local vendors and live entertainment. Visitors can also enjoy food and beverages, tethered hot air balloon rides, and an all-new drone light show. Hours will be Thursday and Friday from 4 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Now in its 22nd year, the Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival continues to bring together residents and visitors for a weekend of color, creativity, and connection. Goodbar’s artwork will help set the tone for an event celebrating not just balloons but also the people and places that make Foley shine.
