Gulf Shores to Close East 29th Avenue for Intersection Upgrades

Airport travelers will need to use alternate routes during the closure

September Road Closure

Gulf Shores, Ala. — (OBA) —  The City of Gulf Shores has announced a road closure on East 29th Avenue. The closure will affect drivers traveling near The Track in Gulf Shores and those traveling to and from the Gulf Shores International Airport. The project is part of planned intersection upgrades in the area. City officials say the work is intended to improve traffic flow and safety.

Beginning Monday, August 31, and continuing through September 30, East 29th Avenue will be fully closed. The closure extends from its intersection with Highway 59 to the entrance of The Track. Drivers should plan accordingly and allow extra time when traveling in that part of the city.

Travelers heading to Gulf Shores International Airport, also known as Jack Edwards Airport, will need to take an alternate route during the closure. The city recommends using East 2nd Street or Waterway East Boulevard as detour options. Both roads provide access to the airport while construction is underway.

The Gulf Shores City Engineering Office is available to answer questions about the closure. Drivers can reach the office by calling 251-968-5059. City officials are asking the public for caution and patience as the project moves forward.
