Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – Foley is moving to buy several new vehicles, lights and other equipment for the police department if a resolution is passed at the next city council regular/work session on March 3. The council will meet at 4 p.m. in council chambers at city hall.

Included in the lot are a 2024 Ford F-150 supercrew pickup for $68,377, two 2025 Explorers with one for $41,057 and the other $40,958, a 2025 Ford Police Interceptor for $56,951, two 2025 Ford F-250 supercrew pickups for $62,411 for one and $62,421 for the other and three 2025 Ford F-150 supercrew pickup for $63,836, $62,989 and $62,989.   

The total for the vehicles and lighting and other equipment is about $925,500.

During the joint regular/work session, the council will also:

• Have an introduction and first reading of an ordinance to amend voting districts in the city. There will also be a public hearing on the changes.
• Have an introduction and first reading of an ordinance declaring a parcel of land as surplus and authorizing the transfer in exchange for another parcel. The agenda didn’t say where the property was located or what the city was looking for in exchange.
• Hear a rezoning request from Elbert and Bernice Hare to change from single-family residential to planned unit development for a six-lot residential subdivision on East Michigan Avenue.
• Have a second reading on an ordinance declaring property owned by the city in Loxley as surplus located at the intersection of State Route 59 and Hinote Glass Road.
• Consider approving a liquor license for First Watch Restaurant located at 3060 S. McKenzie St. or the old O’Charley’s location. First Watch is a breakfast, brunch, and lunch chain with 547 stores across the country and based in Bradenton, Florida.
• Discuss a special events liquor license for the Mudbugs and Margaritas Festival at Heritage Park on April 5 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
• Consider approving a liquor license for the Krishna 65 store located at the southwest intersection of U.S. 98 and County Road 65.
• Discuss accepting the audit for the fiscal year 2024 that ended on Sept. 30.
• Hear a request to amend the pay classification plan for the Nature Parks Department.
• Discuss waiving fees for use of the Foley Civic Center for Boy Scout Troup 77. The agenda didn’t include the date or what the event will be.
• Consider using the leftover money from the Main Street Pedestrian Wayfinding Project to add bike races in downtown Foley.
• Hear a request from the Street Department to buy a John Deere Gator with a front-mount mower for $45,438.
• Discuss approving the use of restricted court cash to replace three heating and air units at the Justice Center for the jail for about $48,000.
• Discuss authorizing the president of the Alabama Municipal Insurance Corp. to act as proxy for the city at the annual membership meeting.
• Consider approving an application to the Alabama Department of Transportation’s Alabama Industrial Access Road and Bridge Corp. The agenda contained no further information.
• Consider waiving fees for using Heritage Park on Aug. 31 for Big Fish Ministries drug overdose awareness day.
• Hear a request to authorize going out to bid for audio-visual needs for the new library, appropriate money for the project and pay additional fees to Williams Blackstock Architects. The equipment is expected to cost about $330,000 and the additional fees to the architect will be about $150,000.
• Consider approving a grant application to the American WWII Heritage Cities program.
• Discuss a request to buy a wind sculpture for the Rose Trail for $7,500. There was $20,000 in the 2025 budget for a downtown beautification project and the remainder will be spent on future projects.
