Foley Conducts Survey For Spring Entertainment Series

Live Music, Movies, and More This Spring at Foley's Heritage Park

Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – Foley residents and visitors will have a chance to comment on what they would like to hear and see when a new season of entertainment starts this spring in Heritage Park.

Residents can go to Survey Monkey to comment on the entertainment options that they would like during “Midday Melodies,” and “Music and a Movie” in upcoming weeks.

The city of Foley’s “Midday Melodies” series returns in March with lunchtime musical performances each Wednesday. Performances are scheduled for March 6, 13, 20 and 27.

The concerts are free to the public. Participants are welcome to bring picnic blankets or lawn chairs. Lunches are available from any of Foley’s many nearby downtown restaurants or spectators can bring their own.

“Music and a Movie” begins Friday, April 19. The series will continue on April 26 and May 17, 24 and 31. The event will be each Friday evening except during the weekends of May 3 and 10 when Art in the Park and the Hot Air Balloon Festival are taking place in Foley.

Live music begins at 6 p.m. followed by a movie at dusk. Concessions are also available. Local artisans and other vendors will also be on hand at the Foley Marketplace in the park.

For both series, free parking is available around the perimeter of the park located at 104 N. McKenzie Street, just across the pedestrian bridge on Alabama 59. Anyone wanting more information can visit visitfoley.org or call the city of Foley at 251-943-1200.

Traffic to Shift to Roundabout Coming Monday on Canal Road

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – Traffic is about to shift on State Route 180 (Canal Road) in Baldwin County as part of the new Intracoastal Waterway Bridge project. A new roundabout and a section of newly built Canal Road will now carry traffic. The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is making this change to move drivers closer to the final layout. Crews will be on-site to complete the shift in one day

Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – Colorful hot air balloons are floating above Foley as the Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival returns. Dozens of massive balloons in various shapes and bright colors create a spectacular aerial display. Residents and tourists gather to witness the impressive sight. The annual event transforms the Gulf Coast skies into a canvas of floating art.

Holmes Babies Reunion Celebrates Baldwin County’s First Hospital

Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – Dozens of people born at Holmes Memorial Hospital came back to Foley on Sunday, April 27. They gathered at the Holmes Medical Museum to celebrate Baldwin County’s first hospital. The hospital helped deliver about 300 babies between 1936 and 1958. Some descendants also joined the special reunion.

GOMESA Grants Open for Community Project Suggestions

Sea Turtle Nesting Season Kicks Off Today on Alabama’s Gulf Coast

From May 1 through October 31, endangered sea turtles—including loggerheads, green sea turtles, and Kemp’s Ridleys—return to the beaches of Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, and Fort Morgan to lay their eggs. This ancient ritual is vital for the survival of these species, which are protected under the Endangered Species Act. Bay Watch Boat Ramp at Weeks Bay to Close for Renovations

It will continue through the end of October. The ban is aimed at protecting the air during the warmer months. Baldwin County is one of 12 counties in Alabama included in the ban.

NOAA Uses AI and Sonar to Track Red Snapper in the Gulf

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – NOAA Fisheries is using advanced technology and artificial intelligence to gather better data on red snapper and reef fish in the Gulf of Mexico, according to a report from NOAA Fisheries on April 15, 2025. In February, NOAA tested new equipment aboard a research vessel. This technology combines video and acoustic cameras, echosounders, and artificial intelligence to estimate red snapper abundance even in poor visibility conditions.
