Newsweek Readers Place Foley Market at Number Two in the Nation

Coastal Alabama Farmers & Fishermen’s Market Earns National Recognition

Foley, Ala. — (OBA) — The Coastal Alabama Farmers & Fishermens Market (CAFFM) has been named one of the best farmers markets in the country by Newsweek. The Foley-based market earned first runner-up in the 2025 Readers’ Choice Awards. This national recognition highlights CAFFM’s strong reputation and loyal customer base. The market continues to shine as a favorite community destination.

Voting for the Newsweek contest was open daily from May 9 to June 5. CAFFM placed second among 15 top U.S. markets, including New York’s Union Square Greenmarket and Seattle’s Pike Place Market.

Founded in 2014, CAFFM began as a nonprofit project funded through the New Markets Tax Credit program. In 2022, the City of Foley officially took over operations. The market has earned both regional and national awards since it opened.

CAFFM Market Manager Alescia Forland credits the award to strong community support. She said vendors, customers, and government leaders have helped create a close-knit market family.

Mayor Ralph Hellmich praised the market’s impact on Foley. He said the award reflects the strong community spirit and commitment to buying local.
