Foley Addresses Equipment Needs at Upcoming City Council Meeting
Foley City Council to discuss annexation and public works purchases

Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – With the start of the 2025 fiscal year, Foley is making moves to add needed equipment for the Public Works Streets and Sanitation departments to provide city services for residents.
The council will meet in a joint work/regular session on Oct. 7 in council chambers at city hall.
First, the city is pre-ordering a 2025 Peterbilt knuckleboom truck for $229,156 for Public Works from Environmental Products Group. Another addition will be the purchase of two garbage trucks from Sansom Equipment Co. for the Sanitation Department for $415,665 apiece.
The city is also seeking to buy a Robo Fifti mower for $99,322 from Beard Equipment, a mainline inspection camera system from Sansom for $157,714 and a skid steer for $209,510.
During the meeting, the council will also discuss:
- Declaring weeds at 410 Oakleigh Circle a public nuisance and ordering it cleaned up.
- Rezoning property owned by JBW Investments from extended business and planned development district to a planned unit development. The company owns property along the new South Juniper Street. The planning commission gave it a favorable recommendation for the request.
- Proclaiming Oct. 14 as Sister Cities International Day in Foley.
- Annexing property at 20316 Brinks Willis Road just east of State Route 59 owned by Club RV into the city and zoned as planned unit development.
- An ordinance to declare city-owned property as surplus and ordering its sale. The city seeks to sell 1.7 acres of the 16.7-acre parcel located in the Foley Industrial Park.
- An ordinance approving a deed correction of land conveyed from Foley to Baldwin County.
- A special-events liquor license for the Burgers, Brats and Beer Fest in Heritage Park on Nov. 9.
- Approving a $1,500 sponsorship for the 2024 Baldwin Heart Walk on Oct. 19 at OWA.
- A request from the police department to declare vehicles as surplus.
- Approving an agreement with the USDA for beaver management along city waterways costing the city $3,000.
- Upgrading lighting on fields 1-3 at the Ralph Schumacher Soccer Complex for $290,000 to $320,000.
- Declaring the badge and service weapon of Officer James Powers as surplus.
- Appointing primary source vendors for the Foley Public Library.
- Reappointing Charles Ebert to the Public Athletic and Sports Facilities Cooperative District and the Public Culture and Entertainment Facilities Cooperative District.
- Purchasing a robot painter for the Sports Tourism and Parks and Recreation departments from Turf Tank for $113,000.
- Amending the pay classification plan in the Public Works and Street Departments
- Approving a retirement award. The agenda did say who was retiring or what the award was.
- Lowering permit fees for a Habitat for Humanity home the nonprofit wants to build in the city.
- Accepting a Gulf Coast Resource Conservation and Development grant of $15,000 to improve accessibility at the Graham Creek Nature Preserve.
- Moving forward with purchases for the Byrne Discretionary Community Project grant. The agenda didn’t say how much money was involved.
- Closing streets on Oct. 24 for the city’s Hometown Halloween celebration.
- Accepting plans from Goodwyn, Mills & Cawood to design, develop bids and oversee construction of the Mills Community Park improvements for $37,535 and topography and surveying at Taylor Park for $22,900.
- Setting a public hearing to declare weeds on lot 1 of Sute Farms Estates as a nuisance and ordering its cleanup.
- Hiring Goodwyn, Mills & Cawood to design a southward Extension of James Road to the city limits of Gulf Shores.
- Approving additional funds for the Cedar Street project to add 1,350 of sidewalk to connect the Mel Roberts Park sidewalk to the Cedar project for $37,000.
