Downtown businesses join forces to bring Christmas cheer, community giving, and summer vibes to Foley

Downtown Foley

Foley, Ala. — (OBA) —  Downtown Foley is giving the holiday season a warm-weather spin with a special "Christmas in July" Third Thursday event. Foley Main Street, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the revitalization and economic development of Downtown Foley, is hosting the celebration. The event offers residents and visitors a fun, low-pressure way to get a head start on the holidays.

The "Christmas in July" Third Thursday is set for Thursday, July 16, 2026, in Downtown Foley, Alabama. Foley Main Street's Executive Director, Darrelyn Dunmore, said the idea grew out of a noticeable shift in how people approach the holiday season. "We all know people are starting their Christmas shopping earlier and earlier, so we thought, why not July?" Dunmore said. "We're inviting everyone to celebrate the season with a summer twist—think tropical vibes, cool drinks, and a special guest from the North Pole."

One of the most talked-about highlights is the Summer Santa Photo Op. Instead of the traditional heavy velvet suit, a beach-ready Santa will be stationed downtown. Families can snap a one-of-a-kind tropical holiday photo to remember. Tropical Elves on Shelves will also make appearances throughout the district for guests to find.

Holiday crafting will be available to children and families thanks to a partnership with Macaroni Kid. The organization is sponsoring and hosting a Christmas ornament-decorating station at the event. It offers kids a chance to get creative while parents browse the shops.

The event also includes a charitable component. Foley Main Street is partnering with Family Promise to support local children entering shelters. Visitors can donate at participating businesses to support children's comfort kits. The kits are intended to make a difficult transition a little brighter for kids in need.

Live music will fill the air at Fish River Gallery, Mamma Mia's, the South Orange Avenue Courtyard, and Scuttlebutt Pub. Participating businesses will also offer "Naughty or Nice" discounts, drawings, and special treats throughout the evening. Dunmore said the goal is to make downtown Foley a destination worth visiting. "We want to give people a reason to explore our beautiful downtown, support our local shops, and enjoy a little midsummer fun without the stress of the holiday rush," she added.
