Dive Against Debris cleanup planned at Gulf State Park Pier

Gulf Shores, Ala. — (OBA) — Residents and visitors will soon have a chance to enjoy the coast while giving back. Organizers are inviting snorkelers, divers, and water enthusiasts to join the upcoming Dive Against Debris cleanup at the Gulf State Park Saltwater Pier. The event brings together the local community to remove trash, fishing line, and other debris from beneath the water’s surface. Volunteers of all experience levels are encouraged to participate and help protect the marine environment.

The underwater cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, October 18, beginning at 8 a.m. The pier will be temporarily closed to the public during the effort to ensure safe conditions for volunteers. The grassroots event is being hosted in partnership with Down Under Dive Shop, which has been active in supporting Gulf Coast conservation projects.

Participants will not only play a role in preserving the Gulf’s ecosystem but will also enjoy a day of camaraderie. Free hot dogs will be available, and prizes will be awarded throughout the day. Organizers stress that the event is not just practical, but also fun and rewarding, giving volunteers a sense of connection with both the water and the community.

To encourage participation, Down Under Dive Shop is providing free rental tanks for certified divers and complimentary snorkel gear for non-divers. Those interested must call ahead to reserve equipment and pick it up at the shop before the event. This ensures divers and snorkelers arrive prepared to make the most of the cleanup.

Gulf Shores lifeguards, public safety divers, and the Orange Beach Marine Police boat will all be present to help safeguard volunteers throughout the day. Those wishing to attend should meet at the Gulf State Park Saltwater Pier and
register online to receive updates on weather conditions and parking details. For more information, organizers can be reached at 251-948-7275 extension 62093.
