Council Set to Tackle Budget and Events in Tonight’s Meeting

Liquor licenses and budget changes on agenda

Orange Beach, Ala. —(OBA) — During July, Orange Beach is planning to celebrate Parks and Recreation Month in a big way. At its next meeting, the city council will declare the month as Parks and Recreation Month and the department has several events to mark the occasion. Those include several indoor and outdoor activities. City facilities will be used for the event.

 

The council will meet on July 1 in council chambers at city hall at 5 p.m. in a joint regular/work session and the council will read the proclamation during the first regular session.

 

The Parks and Recreation events include everything from a monthlong scavenger hunt to free-range days at the golf center and spilling over into August for a history tour and summer send off on Aug. 1 and many in between.Click here to see a list of activities planned for the month.

 

During the regular session, the council will also:

 

  • Review payments of goods and services from June 19-July 2 for $1.8 million.
  • Have a second reading of a change in the sign ordinance to allow for a new sign at the Oasis of Orange Beach formerly Phoenix West II.
  • Consider approval of a liquor license for Adventure Cruises located at Hudson Marina.
  • Consider approval of a special events liquor license application by the Wharf Restaurant Group for the Alabama Society of Civil Engineers at the Orange Beach Event Center on July 17-18.
  • Consider approval of a liquor License for Nami Sushi to be located in the former Bon Temps Poboys and Specialty Meats space.
  • Discuss amendments to the 2025 budget showing $2.3 million in added revenue and a total budget decrease of $418,488.
  • Appointing the city clerk to prepare and file the list of qualified voters for the Aug. 26 municipal elections.
  • Consider giving $25,000 to the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber to fund community programming.
  • Discuss buying emergency equipment for three police cars for $61,604.
  • Discuss a software service and hardware purchase with Flock Group for license plate recognition for the police department for $81,000.
  • Consider a contract with the band Funky Lampshades for a Pop-up Block Party at Mary Snook Park behind city hall on July 12
  • Discuss a contract with Governmentjobs.com for HR software to help with employee benefits, time management and other employee forms.
  •  Discuss a contract with OpenGov to provide cloud software services.
  •  Consider a resolution to authorize a contract with Caroline Utsey for directing the city’s production of “Lion King Jr.
  • Discuss declaring Jeff Silvers as duly elected to place 4 on the city council. He has no opposition in the upcoming Aug. 26 city election.

 

During the work session, the council will:

 

  • Consider a request from The Wharf Landing for a temporary sales trailer at the Margarita build site.
  • Discuss a contract to loan the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber two ATVs for the 52nd Annual National Shrimp Festival.
  • Consider a contract with Offset Consulting for red-dot pistol instructor training for the police department to train inhouse personnel on the use of red-dot sights on handguns.
  • Discuss granting Keel RV Storage a conditional use permit to construct three mini warehouses east of the old Master Joe’s restaurant.
