Fire reignites after initial efforts to douse flames

Boat Fire at Safe Harbor Marina

Updated: Two people suffered minor injuries.

Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) — A developing story is currently underway in Orange Beach, Alabama, where the Orange Beach Fire and Rescue team responded to a rapidly escalating boat fire shortly after 4 PM. Upon arrival by boat, firefighters observed an intensifying blaze on the vessel, identified as the “ANDIAMO.” Initial efforts to extinguish the flames were effective; however, they reignited with greater intensity.

Meanwhile, a nearby yacht untethered itself from the dock, while onlookers anxiously monitored two adjacent vessels as their fate remained uncertain amid the escalating fire. As land-based responders arrived, the burning vessel drifted towards the local charter boat, “Emerald Spirit.” Preliminary assessments indicate that the damage to the Spirit is primarily cosmetic, owing to the swift intervention of the water rescue team, which mitigated the potential for more extensive harm.

Initial investigations suggest that the explosion on the ANDIAMO may have stemmed from malfunctioning blowers and the presence of fuel in the inboard system. It appears that when the vessel was started, a buildup of volatile vapors led to the explosive event. Further evaluations will clarify the extent of the damage and the circumstances leading up to the incident.

Two people were taken by Orange Beach Fire Rescue 2 to the Baldwin Health Freestanding Emergency Department in Gulf Shores with minor injuries.

The boat is currently sunk, bow up with most of it underwater. Authorities are currently assessing the situation.

We will follow up with additional information as more details from the incident are reported.
