Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) — The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is teaming up with Orange Beach to offer boating safety training for area residents. Flotilla 3-10 will teach an all-day safe boating class at the Orange Beach Fire Department. The course aims to help boaters learn important safety skills and rules. Participants will gain knowledge about boat operations and emergency procedures.

The class takes place on Saturday, September 6th, starting at 8 a.m. It will run until about 3 to 3:30 p.m. at the fire department located at 25855 John M. Snook Drive off Highway 161. Organizers will provide lunch during the training session.

People wanting to attend must register by emailing SafeBoating310@gmail.com. They need to include their name exactly as it appears on their driver's license. The cost is $40 per person for materials, paid in cash or check at the class.

Family members get a discount and pay only $25 each. First responders and military personnel also receive the reduced rate. Minors must bring a parent or responsible adult with them to the class.

The course covers many important boating topics. Students will learn about boat familiarization and trip planning. They will study safe boat operations and legal requirements for boats.

Legal topics include life jackets, navigation lights, and sound devices. The class also covers fire extinguishers and boating emergencies. Participants will learn about enjoying water sports safely.

Additional training includes information about local law enforcement. Students will study area waterways and the Intracoastal Waterway. The course also teaches useful boating knots.

This partnership brings professional boating education directly to Orange Beach residents. The Coast Guard Auxiliary brings years of maritime safety experience to the program. Local officials hope the training will reduce boating accidents in area waters.
