Canal Road and Wharf Parkway Intersection Prepares for New Traffic Light
ALDOT aims to have signal lights working by early August

Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) — Drivers in Orange Beach can expect a new traffic signal at a busy crossroads soon. The intersection of Canal Road and Wharf Parkway East, close to Culver's restaurant, will see new traffic lights in the coming weeks. Officials believe this change will make the area safer for both drivers and Orange Beach Middle/High School students. With so many cars passing through daily, many residents have said this signal is much needed.
According to the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT), the poles for the new lights have already been installed. ALDOT has announced that the traffic lights are expected to become fully operational by early August. Once the lights are on, drivers should see an improvement in traffic flow and fewer accidents.
The intersection is a key route for school traffic. To help keep children safe, the newly installed signal will direct vehicles turning onto Money Bayou Drive for school drop-off and pick-up times. Another change is set for Sweetwater Drive, which will become a one-way street. Drivers will only be able to use Sweetwater Drive to exit onto Canal Road.
City leaders believe these changes will make a big difference as traffic increases in the Orange Beach area, especially during busy times. They urge everyone to follow the new traffic signs and signals once they are up and running. With the improvements coming soon, Orange Beach hopes to see a safer and easier commute for everyone.
