Gulf Coast Awaits the Blue Angels' First Beach Buzz of the Season

Blue Angels Buzzin' the Beach in Orange Beach.

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – Communities along the Gulf Coast from Navarre to Orange Beach are anticipating the return of the Blue Angels from their winter training base in California to NAS Pensacola. We’re expecting the Blue Angel's first possible Beach Buzz of the 2024 season to take place mid-afternoon today. This event marks the beginning of Beach Buzz season each year.

For over a dozen years, we have been forecasting potential Beach Buzzes, providing residents and visitors with our best guesses on when they might witness these flybys. The Beach Buzzes, usually occurring on a Sunday afternoon or evening as the Blue Angels return home from air shows, have become a much-anticipated event along the Gulf Coast.

The Blue Angels, based at NAS Pensacola, have a yearly schedule that sees them away at the El Centro Naval Air Facility in California from January until early to mid-March for training. Following this, they return to Pensacola, embarking on a season of air shows and practice sessions that are open to the public at specific times and locations, such as the National Naval Aviation Museum. Their schedule is planned, with air shows and practice dates set throughout the year, culminating in the Homecoming Air Show at NAS Pensacola in early November.

This tradition of forecasting the Beach Buzzes, coupled with the community's excitement and support for the Blue Angels, underscores the deep connection between the squadron and the Gulf Coast region.
