Bahama Bob's in Gulf Shores catches fire

Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – An iconic beach bar in Gulf Shores, Bahama Bobs, caught fire just after 5 pm on Sunday evening, leading to a swift evacuation of the premises. The restaurant, a favorite among tourists, was bustling with vacationing families enjoying their dinner when smoke began to fill the establishment.

The fire appears to have started in the dumpster. Social media reports are saying that the fire was started by a cigarette thrown in the dumpster. This has not been confirmed.

Some on social media said that the building had "burned down", which is not the case. The fire appears to be confined to the northwest corner of the building, where the kitchen is located. The extent of the damage caused by the fire is yet to be determined. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Thankfully, everyone was able to get out of the building safely.

Matt Mauller was in the restaurant when the fire broke out and in a Facebook post said, "The staff at Bahama Bobs was top-notch in getting everyone out of there quickly and safely and the wait staff making sure all their tables made it out as the building was on fire."

We will update this article as soon as we have additional information.

Doug Walker went by Bahama Bob's this morning and shot a few photos showing more of the fire damage.
