Assistant Chief Howard Retires After 30 Years of Service
Retirement event includes a surprise from his son and a farewell call

Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) — After serving Orange Beach for 30 years, Assistant Police Chief Robert W. Howard has retired. Friday, May 23, 2025, was his final day with the department. The community gathered to honor his long service and dedication. His farewell was heartfelt and emotional.
A final radio call and walk-out were held at the Justice Center. In a touching moment, Howard’s son Parker surprised him by making the last call. The retiring officer responded, “101 Orange Beach, it’s been a pleasure. I am 10-42,” marking the end of his shift.
Later in the day, a retirement reception took place at the Orange Beach Community Center. Police Chief Steve Brown led the event, celebrating Howard’s career and thanking him for his service.
Assistant Chief Howard’s retirement marks the end of a proud chapter in the city’s law enforcement history. His legacy of service will be remembered by the community for years to come.
