Gulf Shores School Superintendent Kevin Cochran

Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – The Alabama Association of School Boards (AASB) recognized Kevin Corcoran, Board President of Gulf Shores City Schools, as one of its 2024 All-State School Board Award recipients. Corcoran was honored alongside four other outstanding school board members during AASB’s Annual Convention, held Dec. 5-7 at The Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa.

AASB’s All-State School Board Member program, established in 1992, highlights up to five exemplary past or present board members each year. The award, considered the association's highest honor, celebrates exceptional leadership and commitment to board service. The 2024 honorees were formally recognized during a luncheon on Dec. 6, where Alabama’s 2024-2025 Teacher of the Year, Deborah Stringfellow, delivered the keynote address.

“This year’s honorees exemplify transformative school board leadership,” said AASB Executive Director Sally Smith. “Their strategic vision and collaborative approach to governance have strengthened their school systems and continue to inspire education leaders across Alabama.”

Kevin Corcoran has been a member of the Gulf Shores school board since its formation in 2017 and currently serves as its president. A master-level participant in AASB’s School Board Member Academy, Corcoran has completed more than 160 training hours. His nominators described him as a visionary and collaborative leader whose inclusive approach has been instrumental in the school system's success.

“Kevin Corcoran stands as a model of ethical leadership, steadfast support for educational policies, and advocacy for student success,” said fellow board member Kelly Walker. “His pivotal role in shaping our city’s school system demonstrates an extraordinary vision for the future of education in our community.”
