New LED system will allow extended use of previously unlit facilities in southwest Foley

Foley is adding additional lights at Aaronville Park. The project is the latest
improvement planned at the park in southwest Foley.

Foley, Ala. — (OBA) — Residents in southwest Foley will soon have more opportunities to enjoy evening recreation at Aaronville Park. The Foley City Council recently approved plans to install new lighting systems at the park's baseball field and basketball courts. The improvements will allow people to use these facilities after dark for the first time. Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Lee said the project addresses a clear need in the community.

The city plans to purchase the lighting through Musco Sports Lighting in August. The council voted to add LED lights to one ball field and two basketball courts that currently have no lighting at all. Lee explained that the new system will make it possible for more people to use the park throughout the day and into the evening hours.

The lighting project represents the latest in a series of improvements at Aaronville Park this year. Earlier in August, city leaders approved replacing both the pavilion and the restroom building at the site. The new prefabricated restroom facility will help the park meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards, making it more accessible to everyone in the community.

City officials also gave the green light to replace some of the fencing around the baseball field. These upgrades come as part of a broader vision for the park that started taking shape back in 2023. That year, the council approved the initial improvement plan for Aaronville Park.

The LED lighting technology from Musco Sports Lighting is designed specifically for outdoor recreation areas. This type of system provides bright, even illumination while using less energy than older lighting methods. The lights will help athletes see clearly during games and practices after sunset.

For families and sports teams in southwest Foley, the new lighting means more flexibility in scheduling activities. Parents who work during the day will have more options for bringing their children to the park. Youth sports leagues will be able to hold practices and games during cooler evening hours, especially during hot summer months.

The park improvements show the city's commitment to upgrading public spaces and recreation facilities. Aaronville Park serves as an important gathering place for residents in that part of town. The ongoing enhancements make the park more functional and welcoming for people of all ages and abilities.

With the restroom upgrades, fencing repairs, and now the lighting installation, Aaronville Park is becoming a more complete recreation destination. City leaders continue to invest in public amenities that improve quality of life for Foley residents. The lighting project should be completed in the coming months, bringing brighter days and nights to the community park.
