Traffic Light at CR 12 and Hwy 59 to Temporarily Shut Down for Upgrades
Police to direct traffic during temporary signal install

Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – The traffic light at the intersection of County Road 12 and Alabama 59 will be turned off for several hours to allow for upgrades. A temporary signal will be installed while the work is done. During this time, Foley police officers will be on-site to help direct traffic. Drivers are encouraged to use caution in the area.
The signal is expected to be shut off at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 21, and the work is scheduled to wrap up by 4 p.m. that same day.
Crews will use this time to connect power to new equipment as part of the intersection improvements. They will also remove the current signal poles, which must be moved to make room for new turn lanes.
Alabama Department of Transportation officials said doing the work now helps avoid traffic issues later, especially as school lets out and more visitors head to the beach.
The eastbound section of Baldwin County 12 has been closed during the work. The work schedule should allow that section of the road to be reopened by the end of May, according to ALDOT reports.
Intersection improvements include adding right-turn lanes on Alabama 59 North and Alabama 59 South, and adding left and right-turn lanes on Baldwin County 12. The project also includes culvert extensions and signal upgrades.
The $1.83 million-dollar project was awarded to McElhenney Construction Company, LLC. Work is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2025.
The Alabama Department of Transportation is overseeing the project.
