Foley, Ala. — (OBA) — A parent in Foley is facing a serious charge after police looked into a report from a local school. A School Resource Officer was told about possible child abuse on April 24, 2025. After further investigation, police say a child was harmed by a parent.


Detectives assigned to the case found that Alexis Sandrea Smith, 31, had used extreme discipline on her child. The incident happened in the 1800 block of Airport Road in Foley. The Department of Human Resources stepped in to help the children involved.


Officials created a safety plan for the children. They have been placed with relatives to make sure they are protected. The case is still being reviewed by authorities.


Smith is now facing a felony charge of Torture or Willful Abuse of a Child. This charge is considered a Class C felony under Alabama law.

The city will hold a dedication for upgrades at Heritage Park, Chicago Street, and the new East Jessamine Avenue extension. The event takes place today, Friday, May 30 at 11am. Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) — Alabama shrimpers will soon be able to start harvesting shrimp in state waters. The Marine Resources Division of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) announced the opening. Shrimping will begin at 6 a.m. on Sunday, June 1, 2025. All inside waters not permanently closed by law or regulation will be open for shrimp harvesting.

Cami Wiles was named the winner of the 2025 Wharf Scholarship and received $10,000. Hudson Wilmott was chosen as the runner-up and awarded $2,500. The Wharf’s scholarship program aims to support local students who show dedication to both their studies and their communities.

Boaters are invited to cruise the Intracoastal Waterway, stopping at waterfront venues to collect poker chips and build their best hand.
