Orange Beach Police Plan New Storage Facility
Building would store $200K in exposed police gear
Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – The Orange Police Department is looking to build a multi-purpose facility on the Justice Center campus to provide extra storage and other amenities. The goal of the new facility will mainly be for storage but officials are asking for some additional amenities. Officials say the department has about $100,000 budgeted for the project.
The city council will discuss the facility at a joint regular/work session on Nov. 4 in council chambers at city hall. The new police building will be addressed in the work session and could come up for a vote on Nov. 18.
“Currently, we have approximately $200,000 worth of equipment (digital speed signs, digital billboards, MUVs, trailers, etc.) left out in the elements,” a memo from Interim Police Chief Steve Brown states. “We also intend to create office space for a fleet manager, storage for additional equipment to free up space in the main PD, and an on-site gym for personnel.”
The council will also discuss a contract with GeoCon for $3,000 for geotechnical and engineering services for the new police facility.
On Monday, Nov. 3, the council had an organizational meeting at the Community Center to seat the new council.
