Orange Beach Honors Top Teachers of the Year
Excellence in teaching recognized in Orange Beach

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – Orange Beach City Schools named two outstanding teachers, Ms. Kristen Rayborn and Ms. Rhonda Prater, who were honored as the 2023–2024 Teachers of the Year. This surprise announcement was made during a school tour by Board Members, Central Office Staff, and Superintendent Randy Wilkes on December 6, 2023.
Ms. Rayborn, a dedicated fifth-grade teacher at Orange Beach Elementary School (OBES), has been instrumental in achieving high math proficiency scores. Her 20 years of experience and educational background from the University of West Alabama and Louisiana State University have significantly contributed to her success. Colleagues praise her for her mastery of content and strong rapport with students and parents.
Ms. Prater, a Spanish teacher at Orange Beach Middle and High School (OBMHS), is known for her innovative teaching methods and passion for education. Her students describe her lessons as not only educational but also as a way to build connections. With her background from the University of Tennessee and Tennessee State, and her involvement in various clubs and professional organizations, Ms. Prater has made a lasting impact since joining the Orange Beach educational community in 2019.
Both educators will be formally recognized at the Legacy Awards Banquet at the Orange Beach Event Center on January 30, 2024. Orange Beach City Schools extends heartfelt congratulations to both Ms. Rayborn and Ms. Prater for their well-deserved recognition and looks forward to their continued contributions.
