Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – At its February 12th work and regular meetings, the Orange Beach Planning Commission will address two items on properties around and including the failed Bama Bayou project.

First, the commission will be asked to rescind the planned unit development for the parcels Bama Bayou developers asked for and change the zoning for the approximate 105 acres to general business. It was zoned general business before Bama Bayou developers asked for the PUD.

A second item involves the new owners of those parcels, The Wharf Landing, to replat the 105 acres and seven parcels into just three lots. One of those parcels is 42 acres on the west side of the toll booth and the others are east of the toll booth.

During the meetings, the commission will also discuss:

A request by the Community Development Department for a zoning text amendment regarding the storage of vehicles, boats, trailers, recreational vehicles and building materials on vacant lots zoned as single-family residential. This was deferred from both the December and January meetings.

A request from Collins Enterprises and Cactus Properties to rezone 3.14 acres north of the Dollar General on State Route 161. Owners here have tried to put in a Popeye’s Chicken but were denied because of traffic concerns. Plans for a Cactus Cantina restaurant on the same parcel never came to fruition. Developers are asking for a planned unit development to build an enclosed self-storage facility on the site.
