Orange Beach City Council to Authorize Mutual Aid Agreement with Medstar EMS

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – The Orange Beach City Council will meet in a joint regular/work session at 5 p.m. on Nov. 14 in council chambers at city hall.
During the regular session, the council will discuss:
- Awarding the bid for a fieldhouse for the high school softball and baseball teams to Rolin Construction for $1.8 million.
- A resolution authorizing an intergovernmental agreement with the South Alabama Purchasing Association.
- A resolution authorizing an amended implementation agreement with the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for the Coastal Alabama Sea Turtle Triage Restoration Project. This amendment will make the project cost $860,000 by adding $80,000 for contingencies, according to the agenda.
- A resolution establishing dates for the Municipal Court for 2024. Court will be in session every second Wednesday and fourth Tuesday of each month.
- A Resolution declaring certain personal property owned by the City of Orange Beach as surplus and unneeded and authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to dispose of such property. The lot includes seven vehicles and two wave runners.
- Authorizing a change order with R&B Contracting Company for the sewer force main from Canal Road to CR-12 Project in an amount not to exceed $80,722.
- A resolution authorizing an employee assistance program agreement with New Directions Behavioral Health.
- A resolution authorizing a mutual aid agreement with Medstar EMS, for the Fire Department.
- A resolution authorizing the purchase of stop loss insurance for the City of Orange Beach in 2024. If passed, this would put a cap major medical claim exposure at $200,000 per claim.
- A one-time payment to employees for future services with different amounts for full-time and part-time employees and recent hires.
During the work session, the council will discuss:
- Authorizing the city to have community events during 2024 including the city Mardi Gras parade, the Art Festival, Seafood Fest at the Wharf, Freedom
- Fest at the Wharf, the City Christmas Tree Lighting at the Wharf and school community events.
- Appointing members to the city’s employees’ leave bank. Chandler Dick and Joe Brown will each serve two years starting on Jan. 1 and ending Dec. 31, 2025, replacing current members Jesse Hollingsworth and Nick Bryant. Permanent members are City Administrator Ford Handley and Human Resources Director Vicki Pishna
- Authorizing an agreement with CGI Digital “for a community showcase video program.”
- Signing the annual contract with Bob Riley and Associates for lobbying services in Montgomery for the city at a cost of $10,000 per month plus expenses.
- Signing the annual contract with Van Socyoc Associates for lobbying services on federal issues involving the city at a cost of $6,000 monthly plus expenses.
- Authorizing a contract with Socialize Your Bizness for social media consulting and marketing services for $1,800 a month.
- Authorizing a contract with the Baldwin County Economic Development Alliance to appropriate $12,500 for 2024 to help with the group’s work in south Baldwin County.
- Making a payment to the Gulf Shores Airport Authority of $75,000 an increase from $35,000.
- A performance contract with Coastal Ballet Academy to provide a venue for performances at the Orange Beach Performing Arts Center.
- Extending the entertainment districts at The Wharf and SanRoc Cay Marina/Perdido Beach Resort until Dec. 31, 2024.

Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – At around 2:45 a.m., Foley police responded to a burglary call on State Highway 59. Officers found a man inside the business and apprehended him.
The suspect, 52-year-old Patrick Odell Levens from Pensacola, Florida, had used a power tool to cut a hole in the back wall to get inside.

Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – The popular Good Life Ride cycling event is set to return to Gulf State Park on May 10, 2025. The annual event, which attracts cycling enthusiasts from across the Southeast, will feature multiple route options designed to showcase the natural beauty of Alabama's coastal region.

Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – Travel on West Peachtree Avenue will soon be smoother after the Foley City Council approved road repairs. The council voted to fix the road near Foley Airport last week. Jeff Phillips, the city construction projects manager, explained that collapsed metal storm drainage pipes buried alongside the road had damaged the street.
