Mobile, Ala. – (OBA) – In a recent announcement, first reported by Erica Thomas of 1819 News, Austal USA stated they will invest more than $400 million in a new submarine module manufacturing facility in Mobile, which will create 1,162 jobs.

"This Module Manufacturing Facility will bring additional jobs to Mobile, boost the local economy, and enhance U.S. Naval defense capabilities. Mobile’s Industrial Development Board approved support for the 369,600-square-foot expansion.

The facility will support the U.S. Navy’s Columbia-class and Virginia-class submarine programs.

Construction is expected to be completed in 2026.

According to a company press release, Austal USA was awarded a $450 million contract to expand submarine module production capacity in September of last year by General Dynamics Electric Boat.
