New Baldwin Preparatory School Celebrates Strong First Year

Loxley, Ala. — (OBA) — The Baldwin County Economic Alliance cheered the success of the school's first year success in a news release detailing the progress. After just one year in operation, Baldwin Preparatory Academy (Baldwin Prep) is already reshaping what education can look like for students in Baldwin County. Launched by Baldwin County Public Schools in partnership with the Baldwin County Economic Development Alliance (BCEDA), the school blends academics with real-world experience—and it’s earning recognition for doing just that.

Since opening, Baldwin Prep has received more than 2,000 student applications, with 770 students admitted—including 270 seniors. The school’s mission: to give students academic rigor, workforce exposure, and a head start on future success.

Key partnerships with area businesses and industries have helped Baldwin Prep deliver on that mission. Students have participated in internships, apprenticeships, and career development across high-demand fields. This year alone:

Baldwin Prep received a $300,000 grant from the Schmieding Foundation, a national nonprofit focused on education and healthcare innovation.

45 students completed healthcare internships in collaboration with local providers.

12 Teacher Cadet students signed letters of intent to pursue careers in education.

2 students were selected for the inaugural cohort of FAME – Built by Baldwin, supporting advanced manufacturing careers.

Others joined programs like the Baldwin County Utilities Summer Apprenticeship.

“Our students are gaining skills, certifications, and college credit—and most importantly, they’re discovering what’s possible for their futures,” said Principal Adam Sealy. “It’s been incredibly rewarding to see them thrive.”

Students also excelled in academic and technical competitions, earning top awards from organizations such as the American Society of Civil Engineers, SkillsUSA, Culinary ProStart, HOSA Future Health Professionals, FCCLA, and the National Home Builders Association—demonstrating the school’s strength across a broad range of career pathways.

Much of Baldwin Prep’s success stems from strong ties with local employers. Industry partners like Novelis, Infirmary Health, and D.R. Horton have supported students with internships, scholarships, job site tours, and speaking engagements, helping ensure programs align with real workforce needs.

“Baldwin Prep is one of the most exciting education innovations we’ve been a part of in our region,” said Lee Lawson, President & CEO of the Baldwin County Economic Development Alliance. “It’s producing students who are both academically prepared and workforce ready—and that’s a huge win for Baldwin County.”

Student Sophia Hall echoed that impact. “We graduate with college credit, certifications, and real-world experience. All of these opportunities would be limited at my base school, and I’m forever grateful.”

Beyond the classroom, Baldwin Prep hosted dozens of career-connected experiences throughout the year—from job site visits and field trips to career fairs and the popular “Nibbles & Networking” lunch series, where local professionals visited campus for weekly discussions with students.

As Baldwin Prep enters its second year, the school is focused on expanding programs, deepening industry partnerships, and continuing to connect students to careers with confidence.
