Local Volunteers Gather Supplies To Protect Neighbors From Extreme Heat
The event focuses on collecting essential items to keep people safe from the heat
Foley, Ala. — (OBA) — Organizers in Foley are gearing up for a special event designed to support some of the community’s most vulnerable residents. A local outreach organization is collaborating with a church to host a “Beat the Heat” Collection and Connection Drive for unhoused neighbors. This initiative is part of a broader Community Serve Day. Volunteers aim to gather supplies and increase awareness about the risks of summer heat for those without stable housing.
The drive will take place on Saturday, March 14, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 506 North Pine Street in Foley, Alabama. The location is just a few blocks from downtown activities, which organizers say makes it easy for residents to stop by while out on Saturday errands.
Anchor Point Church has selected
The Sea Glass Initiative as one of its Serve Day project sites. The nonprofit will use the donations to build “Connection Kits” for unhoused neighbors across Baldwin County. These kits are designed to offer practical help while also opening the door for outreach and conversation.

Items requested include…
- Handheld fans with batteries,
- small bottles of sunscreen,
- electrolyte packets,
- SPF lip balms,
- insect repellent,
- cooling towels,
- hats or sunglasses,
- body wipes,
- freezer pops for outreach, and
- bottled water.
These supplies can help people stay cooler, prevent sunburns, and avoid dehydration.
The Sea Glass Initiative notes that the summer sun can be especially dangerous for those without a permanent home. They hope residents will see the drive as a simple way to support neighbors who are often overlooked. By turning basic items into thoughtful kits, organizers believe the community can help make the coming hot months a little safer and more bearable for those living on the streets.
