Gulf Shores, Ala. — (OBA) —  The Gulf Shores Police Department is now accepting applications for its 2026 Citizens Police Academy. The free program offers community members a behind-the-scenes look at how the department operates. Sessions will be held at the new Justice Center, a modern facility designed for hands-on learning. The academy is open to anyone 18 or older who lives or works within the City of Gulf Shores.

Classes are scheduled to begin on September 29, 2026, and will run through November 17, 2026. Weekly sessions will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The eight-week program covers a wide range of law enforcement topics. All sessions will take place at the new Justice Center.

Participants will get an in-depth look at criminal and narcotics investigations, K9 operations, and Marine Unit functions. The program also features SWAT demonstrations and case studies, as well as presentations from several other specialty units. The academy is designed to help residents better understand how their local police department serves and protects Gulf Shores.

There is no cost to attend the Citizens Police Academy. However, space is limited, and the department encourages interested residents to submit their applications early. All applicants must consent to a background check before being accepted into the program.

Because seating is limited and interest is high, accepted participants must be available to attend every session. Missing classes could affect a participant's standing in the program. The department wants to ensure that all graduates complete the full curriculum.

Applications can be submitted online at
gulfshoresal.gov/552/Citizens-Police-Academy. For more information, residents can email gspdpio@gulfshoresal.gov or call 251-968-2431.

The department encourages anyone interested in law enforcement to take advantage of this opportunity.
